A CHRISTMAS-themed bus helped to generate more than £1,000 for a Basingstoke hospice.

Stagecoach ran a special Santa Bus during December serving all areas of the town, which was driven by the man himself.

Rob Vince, operations manager for the Basingstoke area, said: “I’m really proud of our local Santa bus driver Dave Flower for going above and beyond, and really getting into the Christmas spirit all in the name of charity. He has helped raise a fantastic amount for St Michael’s Hospice.”

The total collected by Santa and his helpers for the hospice, in Aldermaston Road, was £1,108 – £300 more than in 2012.

Lynne Grimshaw, St Michael’s Hospice community campaigns co-ordinator, said: “This year’s Santa Bus was great fun and a huge success.

“The people of Basingstoke were so generous and helped to raise a fantastic amount of money for St Michael’s Hospice.

"I would like to say a personal thank-you to everyone who supported the Santa Bus. I would also like to say thank-you to Stagecoach, and to Santa himself, who helped make this year’s event so successful.”
