HEALTH walk leaders from Basingstoke and Deane had the chance to rest their feet as they celebrated a successful year with the Mayor.
A total of 4,829 residents attended local walks in 2013 – an increase of three per cent, with 94 new walkers attending regularly. This month, a new walk is due to begin in Woolton Hill.
Borough Mayor Councillor Dan Putty congratulated volunteers on a great year, at a reception at the Civic Offices.
He said: “With both national and local agendas now recognising the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, there is a great need to provide activities in the borough.
"With so many people volunteering, we are able to provide opportunities for residents to be active and enjoy the companionship of others.”
