GENEROUS golfers clubbed together to raise £14,000 for a cancer charity.

Test Valley Golf Club captains Dave Brown, Dawn Nicholson and Shad Stenning made it their mission to raise as much as possible towards the £5million target set by The Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which wants to build a dedicated cancer centre in the north Hampshire area encircled by the A303, A34 and M3.

The £13.5million centre will offer support services and complementary therapies as well as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so sufferers do not have to travel to Southampton for treatment.

Various events were organised by the club, in Micheldever Road, Overton, including a fashion show and 200-mile bike ride.

The club’s captains persuaded a number of golfers to pose for a calendar for 2014, which features players in positions around the course wearing very little.

A raffle, held as part of the club’s 21st birthday celebrations, raised £1,350 towards the appeal.

Dawn Nicholson, ladies captain of the club, said the fashion show last September was a “great success”.

She added: “It formed just part of a series of activities undertaken this year in support of The Ark Cancer Centre Charity, which is an incredibly worthwhile cause that will potentially benefit every family in the area. Tickets sold out weeks before the show took place.”

Vickie Randall, charity manager for The Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have had such great support over the last year from the golfers at Test Valley.

“The events have been enormous fun with some challenges along the way but their determination has paid off with such a huge donation.”
