THIS is the man police would like to speak to after a woman was pushed against the wall of a Basingstoke underpass.

The assault took place at 11am on New Year’s Day, as the 18-year-old woman walked through an underpass in Cliddesden Road, in the direction of the town centre.

A man walked past and grabbed her from behind before pushing her to the floor. She got up and was then pushed against a wall.

The victim ran off in the direction of the town centre while the suspect headed towards Queen Mary’s College.

The suspect is described as a man of oriental appearance, around 5ft 5ins tall, in his early 20s and wore dark blue baggy jeans and a black hooded top.

The woman is described as white, with brown shoulder-length hair, and wore a dark brown parka jacket, multi-coloured dress and black tights.

Detective Constable Rod Kenny, from Basingstoke CID, said he would like to speak to anyone who might have seen the suspect or the victim that day.
