BOROUGH residents who were left without power on Christmas Day will receive £75 in compensation.
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), which supplies electricity to homes in and around Basingstoke, said anyone who was without power on Christmas Day, regardless of the duration, is eligible for the compensation.
Additionally the company is offering all domestic and business customers who were without electricity for 48 hours a payment of £54, with further payments of £54 for each subsequent 12-hour period.
It will write to all customers that it believes were affected by the power cuts, but applications can also be made online at ssepd.co.uk/goodwill/
Mark Mathieson, managing director at SSE Power Distribution, said he was “immensely proud” of engineers and support staff who helped restore power to some 130,000 customers.
He also said customers had been the “true heroes” and added a consultation will take place into how it can improve its service when power fails.
