NEARLY 50 homes could be built on a greenfield site in Hook.

Charles Church Homes Southern wants to build 47 houses on land off Hop Garden Road, to the north west of the village.

The developer has submitted a request to Hart District Council as to whether an environmental impact assessment is necessary – often a precursor for a full planning application.

Documents submitted suggest the houses would be mostly two storeys high, and that development would be centred around a square.

The plans also mention building a children’s play area and an access road to the new estate from Hop Garden Road.

The developer states that the land has “no particular visual merit”, and claims that the site is too small for an environmental impact assessment.

Planners at Hart aim to decide on the application by December 29.

The proposed housing estate is one of a number that have been submitted in the past few months, after a planning inspector rejected Hart’s blueprint for housing development in the district until 2029.

Inspector Kevin Ward said the plan for 236 homes to be built each year was too low, and ruled that Hart had not consulted properly with other local authorities.

Large-scale developments in the pipeline include building 100 homes at Rifle Range Farm, in Fleet Road, Hartley Wintney, and 50 homes in Alton Road, Odiham.
