THERE’S a new face in the pulpit in Tadley after a grandmother was licensed as Tadley’s resident priest.
The Reverend Jane Penn, a 61-year-old grandmother, was licensed in St Mary’s Church, in Newchurch Road, by The Right Reverend Peter Hancock, Bishop of Basingstoke.
Rev Penn said she is looking forward to the challenge, which is her first full-time role in the church, and is keen to get out into the community.
She spent seven years at a church in Orton Longueville, acting as assistant curate, while also holding down a non-religious job.
Rev Penn said: “I come from a scientific background but this is my calling.
“I came to the church relatively late in life and know what the church has done for me, and I want to get out into the community and give that to other people.
“I hope to be here for a long time but I will go wherever I am needed by God.”
She added that her licensing was a “joyful occasion” attended by family, friends and many people she knew from Holy Trinity Church, in Orton Longueville.
