A YOUNG Basingstoke woman has celebrated beating cancer by taking part in a racy photo-shoot.

Kim Richie, 28, of Flaxfield Road, Basingstoke, was given the all-clear at the beginning of November after months of chemotherapy for cervical cancer.

Now she has joined friends and staff from pub The New Inn, in Sarum Hill, to pose for a naked calendar.

The shots will raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support, which supported Kim through her four-month ordeal.

Photographed by professional photographer Keith Longman, the risqué calendar is now on sale and is one of a number of initiatives the pub has organised to raise money for the Macmillan charity.

Kim’s ordeal started after a routine smear test at Basing-stoke hospital in July revealed early stages of cervical cancer.

She underwent a full course of chemotherapy which consisted of weekly sessions at the hospital, in Aldermaston Road.

“The treatment was the worst thing,” said Kim. “You do get used to being sick all time but chemotherapy is awful.”

Kim’s friends and family rallied around her, and their support was invaluable. Her mother Beverley Majdanek, 47, shaved her hair in the pub to show solidarity as Kim was losing her hair, and landlord Sharon Ainge said staff propped Kim up with soups and tea.

It was then that Sharon had the idea for the naked calendar.

“It just came to me one day,” said Sharon, 43. “We decided to raise the money for the Macmillan nurses who have been fantastic to Kim during her cancer treatment.”

Sharon roped in her bar staff, friends, and even a few pub regulars for the calendar.

“It’s been really fun doing it,” Sharon added. “It’s been pretty embarrassing as well. I am just looking forward to seeing the finished product.

“People want to see some New Inn naughtiness – tastefully done and very professional.”

The calendar costs £8, and will be available from the pub. For more information, contact 01256 354449.
