BASINGSTOKE town centre has been identified as a key area for focus in plans to review the borough’s conservation areas.
Councillors have identified the centre of Basingstoke as a priority following changes to The Malls and regeneration plans for the Top of The Town.
Areas in the borough that have been identified as needing a review first are Basingstoke town, Kingsclere, Old Basing, Overton and Whitchurch. Other high priority areas include Laverstoke, North Waltham, St Mary Bourne and Upton Grey.
Priority is given to areas that face the greatest risk of development and have suffered increasing rates of change to their character and appearance.
Development in conservation areas is tightly controlled and when planning applications are considered, care is taken to enhance the local landscape.
Councillors have said that residents and parish councils should be consulted about any proposed changes, and how they would like to see areas preserved in the future.
