A BASINGSTOKE boy and his dog were the special guests at the launch of a festive bauble hunt.

Owen Hopkins and his pet Haatchi visited Exertis Micro-P in Chineham, which is sponsoring Naomi House and @jacksplace Basingstoke Bauble Hunt for the third year at The Vyne, in Sherborne St John, on December 7.

Owen and Haatchi captured the nation’s hearts after winning the Cruft’s Friends for Life award, and have since worked to support numerous charities, including Naomi House children’s hospice, in Sutton Scotney.

Owen suffers from a rare genetic disorder called Schwartz Jampel Syndrone which causes his muscles to permanently tense.

His best friend Haatchi, an Anatolian Shepherd, was rescued after being left on a train line in London, suffering horrendous injuries, resulting in the amputation of a back leg.

They joined Exertis Micro-P staff, who sported Santa suits and festive costumes for the launch event. Tickets for the bauble hunt cost £4 per child and £1 for each accompanying adult.

Families follow a trail around the National Trust grounds to find hidden baubles which are exchanged for a gift from Father Christmas.

Tina Starbuck, fundraiser at Naomi House, said: “We are all really excited about this year’s bauble hunt and are delighted that Exertis Micro-P and The Vyne have once again chosen to support this very special event.

“Thanks must also go to our special guests, Owen and Haatchi, who have both done so much to help promote the event and agreed to assist Father Christmas on the day.”
