Job taster sessions at Sentinel
8:00pm Monday 14th October 2013 in News
BASINGSTOKE housing association Sentinel is offering free two-hour “taster” sessions for a variety of different jobs for people looking for work.
The Kingsclere Road-based landlord will host 16 workshops outlining what skills are needed for certain jobs.
The courses, which started last Friday and run into 2014, cover areas such as “an introduction to retail and sales”, “setting up your own business” and “social media”.
The sessions, which are free to anybody, will be held at Sentinel’s headquarters, in Kingsclere Road, off the Houndmills Roundabout, and are part of the organisation’s Support Towards Employment Programme (STEP).
Sarah Smith, community development manager of the association, said: “The aim of our taster sessions is to give local people an introduction to the many different types of work so that they can find out whether a job in that industry would suit them and their skills and what they need to do to start a career in their chosen field.”
There will be guest speakers with specialist knowledge leading the workshops. All sessions take place from 10am to noon.
