A SUPER-fit PE teacher has completed five marathons in five days – and she smashed her fundraising target in the process.

Rachel Mann, who teaches at several schools in Basingstoke, said she was delighted to have completed the challenge and delighted that she managed all of the runs in under five hours – raising more than £3,000 in the process.

Rachel completed the first marathon in Farnborough on August 19 on the road, but had to complete the other four on running machines in local gyms because of problems gathering sufficient support teams.

Not surprisingly, the marathons took her a little longer each day. She ran the first in four hours, 23 minutes and the fifth in four hours, 58 minutes.

The 36-year-old, who also works as a personal trainer, was delighted that she has managed to raise so much money for Cancer Research UK.

Rachel, who lives in Farnborough, said: “It really wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. On the fifth day I woke up more excited than anything – I just couldn’t wait to finish. It was a really great experience but I don’t know if I would do it again in a hurry.”

Rachel added: “So many people in my family, and people I know, have been affected by cancer.

“For me, it was really a no-brainer to decide to raise money for this charity – research is the only way they will ever find a cure.”
