New pharmacy opens in Hook
A NEW pharmacy, built as an extension to the GP surgery in Hook, has opened.
Whitewater Pharmacy, in Reading Road, opened its doors to customers on September 16, after the official launch party the previous Thursday.
The pharmacy is open seven days a week, from 7.30am to 10pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 9.30pm on Saturday and 8am to 9.30pm on Sundays.
It has two consultation rooms and has provided a mixture of nine full-time and part-time jobs.
Dr Bill Hudson, a retired senior partner at the adjoining Hook Surgery, was invited to cut the ribbon to open the pharmacy at the opening party, attended by more than 30 people.
Dr Andrew Fernando, current full-time partner, said it had been five years since the surgery decided to have a pharmacy, to provide longer opening hours for patients and more competition to the Boots pharmacy, in London Road, the only other one in the village.
He said: “Whereas before there was only one provider, there are now two, which is good. The other thing is that it is situated at the heart of the surgery.”
The pharmacy, run by Elixia Healthcare, cost more than £300,000 and took six months to build.
