Basingstoke pubs to cut food and drink prices
PUBS in the Basingstoke area will lower their prices on food and drink for one day this week to highlight the effect of VAT on the hospitality trade.
The Dorset-based Hall & Woodhouse pub company is backing Tax Parity Day on Wednesday and will lower its prices by 7.5 per cent for 24 hours.
The pubs taking part include The Portsmouth Arms, in Hatch Warren Lane, Hatch Warren; The Queens College Arms, in Aldermaston Road, Pamber End and The Jekyll and Hyde and The Wellington Arms Hotel, which are both in Stratfield Turgis.
Similar campaigns in Europe have led to a tax reduction which Tax Parity Day organisers say has led to the creation of 21,700 jobs in Europe in the first year alone.
