Mystery surrounds closure of Headstarts Day Nursery in Cliddesden
MYSTERY surrounds the reasons behind the sudden closure of a nursery in Cliddesden.
Parents of Headstarts Day Nursery, at The Old Dairy, in Farleigh Road, received a message last Tuesday evening informing them that it was closing as of 6pm that same day. The childcare provider, which was established by Sara Vare in 1990, runs six nurseries in Basingstoke, Swindon and Newbury.
Grace Durber’s three-year-old son Jonah attended the nursery. The 24-year-old mother-of-two, from Beggarwood, said: “He only started two weeks ago. I have just settled him in there.”
Mrs Durber now needs to find another nursery for Jonah to attend before she returns to her studies at The University of Winchester. She said: “Even if they are re-opening, I’m not happy that it was the best environment for my son. I’m ringing round all the nurseries to find him a place.”
A spokesman for education watchdog Ofsted said: “We were investigating this nursery provider about a child going missing from one of its nurseries when it told us, on Monday, September 16, that it would close all its premises.”
On September 12, just a few days before the closure, The Gazette visited Headstarts to photograph the opening of their new garden, as pictured.
The Gazette spoke to a member of staff at the Cliddesden nursery on Wednesday, but she declined to comment or give her name. No one from Headstarts has returned The Gazette’s calls.
