Basingstoke jobseekers urged to visit council run jobs fair at Festival Place
HELP is at hand for Basingstoke jobseekers looking to get on to the employment ladder as a careers fair will be held in the town later this month.
The free Basingstoke Jobs and Careers Fair will be held at the Basingstoke Discovery Centre, in Festival Place, on September 30 from 11am to 6pm.
The event is geared towards people hunting for work, facing redundancy, or considering a career change.
The event is organised by Basingstoke and Deane Bor-ough Council, alongside Job Centre Plus, Queen Mary’s College, Basingstoke College of Technology, and education charity the Basingstoke Consortium.
Companies attending the fair will include Marks & Spencer, The AA, Virgin Media and Vitacress.
At the Discovery Centre, there will be a current vacancy wall for jobseekers to browse, and experts will be on hand to help with applying for jobs online, and to explain how employment will affect any benefit payments.
A similar event was held in February and attracted more than 1,000 people.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council said that 81 per cent of those attending said that it was useful.
Councillor Andrew Finney, borough cabinet member for economic strategy and development, urged people to attend.
“This drop-in event is another great opportunity for people to get access to the right help and advice to enable them to progress their chosen career,” he said.
“It could also be really useful for local employers and jobseekers in the run-up to Christmas.”
