A BASINGSTOKE charity which supports women with breast cancer is well on the way to entering a new era by expanding its service.

Janis Taylor, founder of The Pink Place, told The Gazette that the charity has had an offer accepted on a property in the town centre.

Although the purchase is still in the early stages, if it is successful it means the charity will be able to expand and offer its services five days a week, rather than once a fortnight.

Janis said she is unable to reveal where the premises is yet, but added the plan is to move the services offered by The Pink Place from her salon, Taylors Hair and Beauty, in Wote Street, to the new venue. Janis said: “It’s a dream come true. It will have its own dedicated floor and we are hoping people can go in and have a cup of coffee or tea and a chat and some treatments.”

The new site will also have an outside area.

Janis said: “We are going to make it a luxurious space. It’s very exciting. Hopefully, it will be up and running before Christmas.”

The charity offers women going through breast cancer, support and beauty treatments, including a new wig service for those who have lost their hair.

Janis founded The Pink Place with her friend Julia Dingwall in September 2010, with the aim of expanding the service. But sadly 46-year-old mother-of-two Julia, from Hatch Warren, Basingstoke, lost her battle with breast cancer in February 2012.

Janis said: “She would be over the moon with it all. We sat down together and discussed the premises we are hoping to get a couple of years ago, and I know she would have loved it.”

She added: “The vision is coming together now which is fabulous for all of us involved in The Pink Place. The bigger vision is to have The Pink Place all over the country.”

The Pink Place, which won A Place to be Proud of Award this year, is now looking for people to help with the move, including electricians, plumbers, plasterers, carpenters and decorators. For more information, visit thepink place.org.uk or to offer help email info@thepinkplace.org.uk.
