A GOOD old Punch and Judy show was one of the attractions at Ramsdell village fete.

The popular fete, held in The Firs, attracted hordes of villagers with performances by Hook Eagle Morris Men, Hannington Brass Band, an ale and beer tent, Basingstoke-based dance school MAD Academy, a barbecue and plenty of entertainment for the youngsters.

There was also the first-ever Great Ramsdell Bake Off, a popular baking contest which had plenty of entries. Amanda McCoy was one of the five local mums organising the biennial event for the first time this year.

She said: “We had a fantastic turnout, I think the weather really helped. It was a brilliant day. We had lots of children and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves.”

An impressive £7,000 was collected for the local church, Christ Church, and St Michael’s Hospice, in Aldermaston Road, Basingstoke.

Mrs McCoy said: “We are so pleased with the amount that was raised. The whole village really came together to make the fete a big success.”
