THE LATEST dance craze to hit Basingstoke helped to drum up vital funds for charity.
Up to 60 women spent two-and-a-half hours taking part in a Bokwathon at Aldworth Science College, in South Ham.
Bokwa is a high-energy dance routine that has people “drawing” letters and numbers with their feet.
Organiser Kelly Freeman, from South Ham, said the session has so far raised £500, and with sponsorship money still coming in, she hopes it will net up to £700.
The money will be split between St Michael’s Hospice, and The Breeze Kids Trust charity.
“It was amazing,” said mother-of-two Kelly. “The event was to raise some money, and put Bokwa on the map.”
Kelly, 38 is a full-time Bokwa instructor and first took up the dance craze more than a year ago after seeing a video on YouTube.
But despite her experience said she was nervous about leading the event.
“I have not done anything like this before. I kept telling myself it was just another class – just a two-hour one.
“But it was great. The girls did really well – they all kept up.”
Kelly said she hopes the marathon dance event will become an annual fundraiser.
