A CHARITY which helps disabled people to get into the saddle is celebrating a boost after receiving equipment that will help those who are wheelchair-bound.
Riding for the Disabled, Wellington and Dummer Group has unveiled its new hydraulic platform which will enable those in wheelchairs to more easily mount their horse.
The £12,600 platform, at the Wellington site, was funded mainly through a £10,000 grant from Sport England and through contributions from local businesses and supporters of the charity.
Bob Jenner, Riding for the Disabled Association, RDA, group chairman, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring more disabled people to riding and to give them the benefits that riding brings.
“I am grateful that the hard work put in to our application to Sport England to sponsor this platform has paid off.
“I and my fellow RDA volunteers are excited at the prospect of it being used, and encouraging disabled people to come along and try it.
“This will mean we will be able to hopefully help many more people, and we know of at least three or four who have already expressed an interest.”
Charity volunteers and users were at the official opening of the platform.
