Baughurst man pays for making threat of violence

A MAN has been hit in the pocket after he frightened a woman by banging on her front door.
Stephen Knight, of Haughurst Hill, Baughurst, pleaded guilty to threatening violence to secure entry to premises when he appeared before Basingstoke magistrates.
The court heard that the offence took place on Saturday, January 12, when Knight, 44, was living with a female friend in the annexe of a house in East Worldham, near Alton.
Claire Hartman, prosecuting, said that Rebecca Bagnall, who lived in the main house, woke to the sound of banging and shouting.
She said: “When she went downstairs, she noticed the front door was being banged very loudly and saw the door was physically moving.
“She said she was extremely frightened and ran across the hallway and called 999.”
Terry McGuinness, defending, said Knight was drunk at the time and had lost his keys, and mistakenly knocked on the door of his friend’s landlord rather than the annexe.
He said: “It was a threat of violence rather than the use of it.”
Presiding magistrate Hilary Staples ordered Knight to pay £100 in compensation and £85 court costs.
