Paralympian Aaron Phipps lined up for Basingstoke conference
7:00am Tuesday 12th March 2013 in News By Dan Cooper
A TEAM GB Paralympian will be a star guest at this year’s Basingstoke Sports Conference.
Aaron Phipps, who was Team GB wheelchair rugby’s top points-scorer at London 2012, will be a keynote speaker at the event, which will take place at The Ark Conference Centre on Thursday.
Representatives from England Hockey and the Hampshire FA will be among guests who will discuss ideas on how to increase the number of people participating in sport.
Those involved in supporting and delivering sport and active lifestyles locally have been invited to attend the conference, which will see delegates from across the borough come together to share their ideas and inspiration.
The borough council previously conducted a survey into sports participation, which revealed that almost half of adults in Basingstoke and Deane do no physical activity at all.
Those findings prompted the council to launch a strategic plan to maintain and improve facilities, with a view to driving up participation levels across the borough.
Registration for the conference is still open, with the last few places available on a first-come, first-served basis.
