A DECISION whether to grant permission for a new Tesco superstore is expected by April.
Opponents to the proposed Tesco Extra at the former Smiths Industries site on The Harrow Way in Brighton Hill went head to with the retail giant during an eight-day planning inquiry.
On Friday, March 1, Tesco presented closing arguments to Government planning inspector Ken Barton, alongside opponents Tesco Action Group, and representatives from supermarket chain Asda.
Tesco's barrister Christopher Katkowski argued the borough council's Development Control committee's decision in July to refuse the plans had “no sound basis”.
Opponents criticised the retailers proposed package of road improvements, and said the store would harm the “vitality and vibrancy” of neighbouring shops.
