Borough preparing for Comic Relief appeal

Girl band The Saturdays are backing this year's Comic Relief
THE people of Basingstoke and Deane are preparing to don a red nose and do something funny for money to raise funds for this year’s Comic Relief appeal.
Red Nose Day takes place on Friday, March 15, when school pupils, businesses, community groups and individuals are aiming to raise as much cash as possible through various events.
On March 11, a group of brave volunteers will attempt to raise a few chuckles, and a few pounds, at the Red Lion Hotel, at the Top of The Town, Basingstoke, when they perform stand-up comedy in front of a 120-strong audience.
Basingstoke was chosen by the BBC as the location for its Stand Up If You Dare event, with money raised from ticket sales going straight to Comic Relief.
At Jolly Olly’s Coffee Shop, in Oakley Lane, Oakley, customers are invited to decorate a funny face biscuit and donate money to the Comic Relief cause, which helps to tackle poverty in the UK and Africa.
And at Sainsbury’s, in Mulfords Hill, Tadley, staff will raise money by holding a raffle and other activities.
On Wednesday, March 13, Snows Kia Basingstoke is hosting a comedy event called Doing Something for Money. Tickets cost £15 and can be purchased from the Houndmills dealership.
