Pete Bevel winces as his legs are waxed by Leanne Rendell
TESCO worker Pete Bevel definitely knows the meaning of grin and bear it!
Pete, stock control manager at the Tesco store in Chineham, lay before shoppers at the entrance to the shop and had his legs waxed to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Thankfully, putting up with the pain paid off as nearly £250 was raised through sponsorship and donations in buckets.
After having the hair on his legs removed, Pete, 25, from Kempshott, Basingstoke, said: “It was pretty painful if I’m honest, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be – and now my legs feel smooth but numb.”
Pete ended up on the waxing table after losing a bet with a colleague.
Leanne Rendell, spa supervisor at The Hampshire Court Hotel, who performed the waxing, said: “He was very hairy, but very brave – he didn’t scream as much as I needed him to!”
Cancer Research UK has been Tesco’s Charity of the Year for almost a year and the Chineham store has raised nearly £7, 000.
Julie Shepherd, community champion at the store, said: “We really wanted to do the leg waxing because we thought it would be something that would create a bit of interest at the front of the store. Pete was incredibly brave.”
