A SURVEY of parking habits in Hook is to be conducted next month.

The survey, funded by Hook Parish Council, will involve questionnaires being handed out to villagers and motorists, and the logging of parking in the village’s streets.

Parking has long been seen as a problem in Hook, with residents complaining about commuters parking in residential roads before using the train station and parents parking near the junior and infant schools in Church View.

The Crossways car park, in Reading Road, has also been discussed by the parish council for its lack of use despite its central position in the village.

The last parking survey was carried out by Hart District Council in 2010. It led to changes on some residential roads including the introduction of double yellow lines.

Hook parish clerk Anne Atkins said the latest survey is in anticipation of the 500 new homes that are planned for the north east of the village.

She told The Gazette: “It is partly recognising that demand for parking at the schools and the station is likely to get worse.

“In order for us to come up with solutions we have to understand the parking situation.

“But it is also because our residents are complaining about parking in residential areas when we have a car park in the centre of Hook that’s under-utilised.”

The survey will include roads such as Newnham Road, Rectory Road and all the roads in the centre of the village. It is expected to last two weeks.

A team of volunteers, including parish council members, will carry out the survey. To take part, contact the parish council on 01256 768687.
