A HAIR-RAISING campaign is set to come to Basingstoke again this month with the return of St Michael’s Hospice Mad Hair Day.
The annual event will this year be held on Friday, February 15, to raise much-needed funds for the hospice, in Aldermaston Road.
People in schools, colleges and businesses are being asked to don crazy wigs and style their hair in weird and wacky ways.
To help drum up support, a special Mad Hair Day bus will be touring the borough on Friday, February 8, visiting schools and companies to spread the word about the event.
Students from the BCoT hairdressing course will be on board the bus, ready to show people how best to achieve the perfect bonkers hairstyle.
Helena Maskell, community fundraising manager at the hospice, who is organising the event, said: “Mad Hair Day is the perfect excuse to go wild and have fun with your hair.
“Maybe you have always wondered what your hair would look like pink, permed or in a beehive?
“Perhaps, ladies, you have always wan-ted to be brave enough to have your head shaved, or gentlemen, get your legs or chest waxed? Well, this is the day to give it a try!”
Last year, more than 25 organisations, took part in Mad Hair Day, helping to raise over £7,000.
The hospice needs to bring in £2.7million a year from donations, fundraising and its shops, to keep running.
Helena said: “This year we are hoping to exceed the amount raised last year by encouraging even more people to take part.”
