THE driver of this car had a lucky escape after it landed on its side in a ditch at the side of the road.

The female was cut out of the silver Volvo this morning and taken by ambulance to hospital as a precaution, but did not complain of any injuries.

PC Gordon Simmonds, who was at the scene, said the accident near Old Basing, in Newnham Lane, happened at around 8.15am, adding: “It appears that she lost control of the vehicle.”

Police closed the road while the car was recovered from the ditch, lifted out by a hoist.

Surprised this doesn't happen more often on Newnham Lane, the way some people drive down there is ridiculous - not uncommon to come round a bend and find a car coming your way well over the white line or the idiots that fly into the pinch points not caring whether someone else may be already coming through
