Unemployed people needed to join new course

FIREFIGHTERS are looking for unemployed people in Basingstoke who want to learn new skills.

Basingstoke fire station will hold two Prince’s Trust courses this year, from January 21 and May 6. The full-time course lasts for 12 weeks and is for people aged 16 to 25.

Highlights include a residential week away and help with building confidence and CVs.

What a bitter comment! Why didn't you do just a little bit of research before posting such a cynical message?
I have nothing but respect for the Prince's Trust for continuing to try and get young adults into work through the many initiatives they sponsor and organise.

Really, well perhaps you would be wise to do a little research yourself prior to shooting your mouth off as the Princes Trust were named as subcontractors to Work Programme contractors - Preferred Bidders. Still dont allow the facts to distort your opinions.

Yes they will still receive any benefits to which they are already entitled. Plus they will be trained, gain qualifications and some work experience, get help with their CVs and self-esteem and at the end be far better placed to find employment. So I really could not understand wight1337's comment about workfare.

Perhaps you could research the realities of workfare online rather than quoting on the party line and expecting me to persuade you otherwise. The Boycott Workfare .org is a good place to start.

How is coercing people into forced labour, under the threat of sanctions should they refuse, for renumeration which amounts to one quarter of the supposedly national minimum wage likely to bestow on them the work ethic?
All they are learning is how to be exploited, an underclass of expendable fodder blackmailed into submission in order to feed the corporate greed machine and the corrupt political elite whose snouts are in the same filthy trough.

Whether this scheme is part of that or not I don't know, which is why I asked. But most of the current workfare is shelfstacking for private companies subsidised by the tax payer and at the same time destroying real paid work. Either that or being forced to work in a charity shop of a pseudo charity which has a CEO and board of directors all on £150K a year of the money taken from the money donated to the cause.

wight1337, I understand workfare, I just do not understand how you think this scheme could sound like workfare. If you had looked at the scheme at the outset, instead of posting your prevocative comment, you would have seen it offers, to those young, unemployed adults who want to get into work, an opportunity to do all the things I described in an earlier comment. There is no compulsion but I would hope it will be oversubscribed - I know I would have jumped at this sort of opportunity if it had been available when I was out of work. I would not have felt exploited or coerced and would have been disppointed if I missed out. As it was I was offered other opportunities which eventually led to me getting back into work.
