Worting Road burial ground nearing capacity
7:20am Wednesday 24th October 2012 in News By Gazette reporter
LAND next to Basingstoke Crematorium has been earmarked as a new burial site as the town’s Worting Road cemetery nears capacity.
Council chiefs on Basingstoke and Deane’s housing and environment committee have earmarked the site over five other plots including Eastrop’s Old Common, and Manydown.
The decision comes as Worting Road, which has on average 119 burials a year, is expected to reach capacity by 2019.
The borough council-owned site, adjacent to the Dignity-run crematorium at North Waltrham, has capacity for up to 90 years.
Landscaping work to bring it into use is expected after 2015.
