Patrols stepped up after crime spate

POLICE have stepped up patrols in a Basingstoke suburb after eight cars had their tyres slashed.

Officers are stopping any suspicious individuals seen in Brighton Hill after the vehicles were damaged in a spate of incidents in the last few days.

Most cars were parked on the road but some were parked in people's driveways.

The incidents took place in Quilter Road, Copland Close, Chopin Road, Sullivan Road, Britten Road and Ravel Close.

PCSO Karla Hammond said: "We are conducting extra patrols, particularly during the evening and anyone seen acting suspiciously or loitering will be stopped and spoken to.

"We'd also like to remind vehicle owners to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to us."

Anyone with information should contact the Brighton Hill safer neighbourhoods team, at Basingstoke police station, on 0845 045 4545.

Yep, this is pretty common in Brighton Hill and we know that the perpetrators live in Mitchell Gardens - don't we. Guess where the girlfriends live and the route they take to get there . . .

Is Colombo still off duty?

haha Oh no... not a PCSO. Everyones done for now (Sarcastic)

Bring back the real cops and neighbourhood watch teams. We all know from past experience and continuing problems that simply "talking" to these youths has no effect.

Neighbourhood Watch would not work anymore. It's finding someone who will pass the CRB check to head one up that's the problem. In Brighton Hill that's pushing the boat out.

I live in the Beggarwood area and my partner had three of his car tyres slashed the day before Christmas Eve 2006. My partner looked out of the window around midnight and actually saw a person in a hoodie slashing his tyres. He called out the window and said what are you doing and the person just carried on slashing his tyres. The person responsible then just jumped into a car which was parked around the corner and sped off. There was a spate of tyre slashing around Basingstoke at the time. We called the police and they didn't seem that bothered The cost to my partner was around £340 as he ended up replacing all four tyres.

And there is a good bet that the kid works in a local tyre centre and gets off seeing his victims come in. One well known local yob rings a bell with me now. Sad story, loved cars and vehicles - never bothered with school. Thought he could become a mechanic but found everyone wanted qualifications. Ended up bitter and working as a tyre monkey. If only he had not bunked off school all the time running around the streets.

As for the extra patrols - well, when pressed on this the local Police were unable to give any details at all, so it is probably a crock of s.......
