Willcock innings lights up Guy Jewell Cup
NICK Willcock smashed the second-highest individual score ever in the Guy Jewell Cup last week at May's Bounty.
The Old Basing batsman struck 157, which included 17 fours and nine sixes, as he came close to beating Keith Lovelock's record of 169 for Hook and Newnham Basics.
Willcock's reigning champions breezed into the second round of this year's competition, which is backed by the CBS group.
He also cracked a century in the opening round last season for the village side.
Old Basing posted a score of 217-4, which proved far too much for opponents Overton, who ended on 128-7 from their 20 overs, with Will Kinnear the top scorer with 48.
The 2005 cup winners Odiham and Greywell moved into the second round, thanks to a three-run win over Ropley.
Paul Voisey (59 not out) and Peter Came (54 not out) were the mainstays of the winners' total of 141-2.
In reply, Chris Glanfield hit an unbeaten 41 as Ropley finished on 138-4.
Whitchurch beat Rotherwick ITW by 58 runs, with Ed Treble top scoring with 69 in a total of 153-4.
In reply, Rotherwick ITW finished on 95-7, with opener Paul Buckingham top-scoring with 37 and Heywood (3-18) the pick of the bowlers.
RNA Sports moved into the second round thanks to a walk-over against St Mary Bourne, who were unable to raise a side.
