DJ and dance workshop has the desired effect

POLICE in Hook have hailed a DJ and street dance class for teenagers a success after figures revealed a drop in anti-social behaviour.

The Base Youth Club, in Ravenscroft, Hook, with help from the police, Hook Parish Council and Sentinel Housing, set up an eight-week DJ and dance workshop on Monday nights, aimed at young people.

Pc Jo Blanchard told a meeting of Hook Parish Council that reports of anti-social behaviour during the eight-week period had decreased from 15 reports in 2007 to 10 in 2008.

Police community support officer John-Paul Curd helped to set up the workshop, which started at the end of December.

Pcso Curd said: "We are very pleased with the results of the workshops that came out recently.

"It's the first project that the Hook workshops have put together, and we are now looking to get more workshops going."

Pc Blanchard also told the parish council that the police were concerned about the number of house burglaries in Hook in February.

She said, in response to five burglaries last month, police carried out two late-night operations against suspected thieves, but no arrests were made.

In February, there were eight reports of criminal damage, three reports of theft from motor vehicles and 12 reports of rowdy and inconsiderate behaviour, according to Hook beat office.
