THE Co-operative (Wholesale) Society occupied 28-30 Winchester Street for most of the second half of the 20th century although the shop extended along a significant stretch of New Street.
The Co-op comprised a butcher’s, a savings bank, a small supermarket and various departments on different levels that specialised in clothing, white goods and other household items.
