NUMBER 26 Winchester Street is remembered as being part of the business established by Herbert Gifford after the Second World War but during the war it had been commandeered as a canteen for American military servicemen.
Before that it was the Golden Gate Caf, run by a Miss E. Turnbull which may possibly explain why a milkman is seen standing outside.
In 1948, number 26 was the base for Mackies’ Cleaners and Dyers Ltd.
In 1983 it was taken on by a print and design company named Kall-Kwik and has since seen numerous businesses, chiefly estate agents, come and go.
