Concert ruined by lack of sound
11:40am Tuesday 16th October 2012 in Letters
Sir.-Basingstoke is home to a wealth of talent – young and old. So it was such a shame the Mayor’s Variety Concert held at The Anvil on October 6 was completely ruined for everyone by a complete lack of sound.
Performers belting out songs could only be seen moving their mouths from beginning to end. The Mayor smiled bravely on but the paying customers were less than happy. The concert can never be repeated and such a lot of performers were let down by something pretty basic.
The plus point was that the excitement of the Junior Schools Choir was so plain to see – microphones and sound were not necessary. Well done to everyone, but we would have loved to have heard you too.

- An Anvil Arts spokeswoman said: “We are very sorry that problems with the sound quality spoilt the enjoyment of the Mayor’s Concert last Saturday.
With live performance there are times when even the best plans can go wrong, and this was such an occasion, in spite of all the efforts to rescue the situation.
We hope that it will be possible to include those performers affected in a future concert for all to enjoy.”
