Little benefit in changing exams
11:30am Saturday 13th October 2012 in Letters
Sir.–I recently saw on the news that the Government is talking about scrapping GCSE exams and have made up some other new name for exams.
I think it’s stupid to keep messing with exams, as nobody will know how good their results are in comparison with the old exams, which everyone understood what standard they reflected.
The Government has wasted loads of time and money and caused loads of stress to pupils and teachers, and all to no benefit. Everyone knew what CSE and O or A levels were, likewise GCSE.
Everyone can’t be A standard, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a role to play. I don’t think society respects manual workers enough, as the country wouldn’t be able to function properly without builders, lorry drivers, shop assistants, dustmen... etc.
