National success
12:10pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in Letters
Sir.–Following the amazing success of both the Olympics and Paralympics Games, I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to congratulate all the athletes that took part in the games, as well as the volunteers and officials that made it such a successful event.
Hampshire can be proud of the achievements of its athletes and of its strong support for sport through the joint working of the Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership and the district and borough councils.
Now, as thoughts start to turn to Rio, the county council is considering ways of building on the success of the Olympics and Paralympics.
Both have shown how well we do when working together as a whole nation, and perhaps now is the time to hope that in four years, the United Kingdom is still united. It would be sad to think that Scotland might no longer be part of that team and that the Union flag might no longer be raised at medal ceremonies.
–Councillor Keith Chapman , Executive Member for Culture and Recreation, Hampshire County Council , The Castle, Winchester.
