Sir.–I was very disappointed to read the letter in Thursday's Gazette , moaning about the torch relay in Basingstoke.
I speak for my family and friends when I say we had a wonderful time at the torch relay.
The atmosphere where we were watching was upbeat, showing a real community spirit. It felt so good to be a part of history.
So come on everyone – just be thankful that Basingstoke was included in this once-in-a-lifetime event.
The anticipation of waiting for the torch was reminiscent of the days when we used to have a carnival in Basingstoke. What a shame that it can't be resurrected.
Good luck to all our athletes and volunteers who are going to be a part of the Olympics.
