Get wise over health and safety
9:10am Saturday 23rd June 2012 in Letters
Sir.–The Secretary of State recently approved the building of 100-plus homes at Boundary Hall, Tadley, which is 50 metres away from the Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) boundary.
This sensible decision overturned the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) policy, which was to block any development that close to Aldermaston (AWE), on the grounds of safety.
So the Government looked at any risk and decided that it was negligible, and that the local community would benefit from more affordable homes.
However, it appears that the HSE are still sulking about the decision, and laughably are still blocking much smaller developments in the area which are even further away from AWE.
In my opinion, the HSE is run by small-minded bureaucrats who don’t live in the real world, and that if the HSE had been around at the time of our ancestors, we would still all be living in caves, wearing hard hats and safety goggles.
