Time to invest in future of science

Sir.–Last week, I had the immense pleasure of attending the TeenTech event, organised by Basingstoke Consortium in my voluntary capacity of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths Ambassador).
This event was truly inspirational, from escorting some very enquiring minds of youngsters keen to learn the value of STEM in societal wealth creation, to watching these youngsters actively engaging in the attending companies activities and exercises, to developing ideas that are our future. Fantastic.
HRH Prince Andrew turned up as a surprise.
I trust this event grows annually and is supported by even more businesses within Basingstoke. Unfortunately, some of the biggest names in town requiring STEM skills were absent. It is not as if they don't print the money required to fund this invaluable investment in the future.
We hear too often of companies supposedly lacking STEM-skilled people.
What better investment in the future than to inspire youngsters to gain those skills, than supporting this worthwhile event?
