Sir.–It was gratifying to read the report in The Gazette that Hampshire County Council traffic experts have concerns about the capability of local roads to cope with the volume of traffic likely to be generated by Tesco’s proposal for a supermarket in Winchester Road.
From what I could deduce from Tesco’s application, little (if any) consideration seemed to have been given to roads beyond those immediately surrounding the site, neglecting the potential impact on those wishing to access the Winchester Road or Brighton Hill Roundabouts from local residential areas. I also found it strange that the proposals seemed to ignore the rise in traffic levels during the afternoons as local schools turned out, concentrating only on morning and evening peaks.
