Sir.–After reading the article by Emily Roberts, it was very hurtful to read what John Wright, from The Cafe Project, had to say on the matter. I would like to respond on behalf of the parents of Smilies parent, baby and toddler group, many of whom have contacted me.
The comment by Mr Wright suggested that prior to The Cafe Project taking over the lease, somehow The Dome was ‘filthy’ and not fit for children.
We would say this is absolutely not the case and, as a community group, which I might add was the whole purpose for The Dome being built, we made sure it was a safe and clean environment for our children for the five years that we were there.
Once The Cafe Project started work on refurbishment, I even closed the toddler group so that the children would not be in a dirty and dusty environment.
I would like to say on behalf of all present and future parents who have attended, or may attend Smilies in the future, we would like to reassure them we always have a safe and clean environment for their children to play in.
–Tricia Hunt, Smilies co-ordinator, Basingstoke.
