Enjoy a ride on the slow train

Sir.-The long-suffering commuters from Basingstoke should not deny the rest of us a decent station booking hall.

It’s costing £1million. Each coach for the new train order for the similar Southern Railway will cost £1.44m. So how would an extra two-thirds of one coach (on one train) help those currently standing on South West Trains?

I don’t commute but often travel on peak-time trains and have found a simple way of getting a seat. I use the slow trains! They take 15 minutes longer, and there are plenty between 7am and 9am.
