Doctor deserves to be praised

Sir.–We live in a world where we are only too quick to complain, and when things go well, we very rarely stand up and tell everyone how well someone has done.

I have decided after getting such exceptional treatment from Basingstoke hospital and, in particular, Dr Plant to make my small part in correcting this.

After moving locally from Nottinghamshire and trying to find a solution to a rather unique medical problem which would in time take my life from me, I discovered Dr Plant, who in all fairness must have wondered what had dropped on him when I first went to see him.

We discussed the risks and problems, and by him thinking his way around the situation, he offered me the treatment that has resulted in me still being here today.

I know it would be easy to say that anyone who has been given a chance at life would always hold their doctor in some high esteem, but in this case it is more than that.

For me to find someone with the skills that Dr Plant has, his ability to go out of his way to fight to find me a solution and to be caring, in the manner that he discusses a difficult situation, is truly magnificent. He is someone who Basingstoke hospital should rightly be proud of having working for them.

Although he was my first port of call, I have to thank, of course, Dr Plant, Dr Hindley, all the staff in the radiology department, Ward C, and also Mary Edwards, the chief executive of Basingstoke hospital, who I understand personally supported Dr Plant in giving me the treatment I required, as unorthodox as it was.
