Sir.– I was around the area at the Top of the Town recently, between 7.30pm and 8pm. I saw two traffic wardens booking lots of vehicles in the pay and display car parks.
For years I have parked in the town in the evening and it never crossed my mind that they would be checking vehicles at that time of night. I just thought there were plenty of spaces and most were only stopping for 10 minutes to buy some fast food.
It then crossed my mind that this is work of somebody in the council trying to generate some extra revenue by stitching up some unsuspecting car owners.
I know you may think that well there is a sign and you should pay etc, etc, but this is not a far cry from the rogue wheel-clampers that they are trying to outlaw.
Give us a break. Try and think a bit more creatively on how to save or generate income.
Everyone is strapped for cash at the moment. They don’t need some bright spark in the council saying “I know, lets do late night checks on parked vehicles".
Get a grip council people.
