Sir.–I would like to add my small voice to the many others who are concerned about the withdrawal by banks of chequing facilities (last Thursday’s Gazette).

My 90-year-old mother lives in the Old Raven House Care home and has dementia. I have power of attorney to manage her affairs. I pay for her newspapers, her hairdressing and chiropody by cheque, and setting up direct debits for these small business suppliers would be irksome.

However, the biggest sufferers will be my grandchildren and nieces, all of whom receive cheques through the post from me on birthdays and at Christmas. How will I now send my gifts?

If my contribution helps the campaign, I will be very glad.
