Don’t ignore the unemployed

8:46am Friday 23rd July 2010

Sir.–In January, this year, I was laid off work due to the recession.

I am now one of the three million unemployed sweeping the country. I don’t want to moan or groan about anything, I just want to make a point.

Since January, I have sent out a total of 130 CVs to several employers who, when I am applying for a job in the Job Centre, request a CV. What annoys me is that when you send them one, they do not have the courtesy to either inform you or when you leave messages on their phone, they say they will contact you – they don’t. I am sure there are a lot of unemployed people in this town who feel the same as I do.

What I would like to see is the employer put on the vacancy that if you have not heard from them within four weeks, then you have not been successful at this stage.

Every so often the unemployed have to attend a review to show they have applied for jobs. If they can’t show they have applied, then they could lose their benefits because employers can’t be bothered to let them know. I would just like employers to think about the people who are not offered their vacancies.
