Travellers should be moving on

Sir.–By definition the word “traveller” means someone who keeps on moving. Therefore, neither Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council or any other council in the land has any obligation to make provision for these people – it is their choice of lifestyle.

If they wish to stay in the community for any period of time, then it is only reasonable that they make some sort of financial contribution.

After all, like most residents, I don’t want to see my council tax used to clear up the mess that they usually leave behind.

So back to the word “traveller” – either carry on moving or plant your roots. In the latter case, you have to pay like the rest of us!
