Vision deserves our full support

Sir.–I read with interest your Opinion column on May 28, which followed Tony Curtis’ earlier article.

I have worked in Basingstoke since 1981 as a commercial property surveyor and have seen many changes in the town over that period.

I think most people who work in business in Basingstoke would agree that it is a thoroughly good place to be, and that there are excellent opportunities for the business community to work together and to prosper.

For the town (or indeed future city) to really succeed, the vision Tony puts forward as chief executive is to be applauded and fully grasped.

For such a good vision to succeed will require the support and endeavour of the whole community. This will include the council themselves, who will need to ‘think outside of the box’ and be prepared to be brave in embracing exciting new ideas and modern concepts.

A plan for the future needs to be agreed and signed up to. There needs to be a real push and determination to succeed. The business community, as well as the residents of Basingstoke, need to be united in their commitment.

We were delighted when The Anvil arrived, the Basingstoke Leisure Park, the extension to the Haymarket and other excellent improvements, not least Festival Place.

Let’s support the chief executive and boldly go many more steps forward. Basingstoke has everything to gain.

–Jim London, director, London Clancy, Basingstoke.
